Policy & StandardizationGlobal Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) • GASP contains ICAO’s safety strategy • GASP is being updated (by end 2011) to involve: • Strategic coordination and prioritization of global safety initiatives based on risk • In cooperation with stakeholders, partners & donors • Establishment of meaningful, forward-looking safety targets and global safety indicators • Quantify safety improvements • Identify areas requiring additional focus • Creation of Regional Aviation Safety Groups for regional implementation What We Do: Safety

Fatigue Risk Management Systemsand Flight & Duty Time Limitations • Fatigue Management SARPs amendments to include: • Mandatory FTL regulations (as current) • Optional FRMS regulations (proposed) • FRMS standards expected to be applicable in October 2011 • FRMS Symposium in August 2011 • ICAO is developing detailed guidance on FRMS for Industry and States with IATA (March 2011) • For more info: www2.icao.int/en/FRMS2011 What We Do: Safety

Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) • NGAP launched to ensure sufficient competent personnel is available to manage & maintain global air transport system in years to come • Endorsement scheme for high-level Academic Institutions (2011) • Series of regional conferences (2011) • Second NGAP Symposium (2012) • Competency-based training standards for licensed aviation professionals (2012) • ICAO & IATA’s ITQI to deliver: • Competency-based training standards for maintenance personnel (2011) • Guidance material on evidence-based training for pilots (2012) • Standards for evidence-based training for pilots (2012) • For more info: www2.icao.int/en/NGAP What We Do: Safety

Language Proficiency Requirements • ICAO recognizes challenge States are facing in implementing language proficiency requirements • But maintains position on due to safety implications • Need to keep momentum of States working to meet deadline • ICAO provides assistance to achieve target • ICAO is asking States to present detailed and transparent implementation plans • To demonstrate how they will comply with requirements • Language testing endorsement mechanism for test providers is being developed • Endorsements will begin in June 2011 What We Do: Safety
