DJBeat.net: Digital Music & Multimedia Social Network

DJBeat.net is a social network tailored for music producers and DJs, showcasing original multimedia content like digital music, videos, and graphics. With a structure akin to Facebook or MySpace, it provides a platform for creatives in the music industry. The project involved creating the site using a free, open-source Social Network PHP script called Dolphin, though faced challenges with nameservers and web hosting limitations, which are being addressed for a smoother user experience. Through this project, valuable lessons were learned about PHP programming, site layout, and web hosting, guiding future improvements and development plans for DJBeat.net.

  2. Project Description • Social Network that showcases original multimedia such as digital music, videos and graphics. • Similar structure to FaceBook or MySpace, but for Music Producers and Disk Jockeys.

  3. Outcomes • Created DjBeat.net (registered domain) • Originally created with free, open source Social Network PHP script, called Dolphin • Scripting is intensive and difficult for inexperienced PHP programmers

  5. Outcomes (continued) • Problems with nameserver allowing domain to show up in browser • Proxy had to be used to view the site • Webhost had low bandwidth and made site slow if several users were logged in simultaneously

  6. Outcomes (continued) • I plan on fixing nameserver issues and upgrading hosting plan  • I created my own liquid layout that would be used for DJBeat.net • I used original graphics, music, video and layout:

  14. Lessons Learned • I need to learn more PHP and possibly create an original social network backbone • Original layouts are better to work with and come from the <3 • I need to pick a better webhost if I want to fully launch DJBeat.net
