  2. The ‘In Gloucestershire Children Count’ Programme is a successful early mathematics intervention. Initially it was aimed at children, usually in Year 2, who were not on track to reach the expected level of attainment at the end of Year 2, but it is equally effective for any pupil who struggles with mathematics.

  7. Changes for 2012-13 • The training, for teachers or teaching assistants who wish to learn how to deliver the Programme, will now be held centrally and delivered over 4 centrally held sessions.

  8. The training - Session 1 – Introduction to the Programme – Starting the diagnostic journey – using the Sandwell test. Session 2 - Planning and delivering a Diagnostic Lesson Session 3 – Writing the Individual Mathematics Plan Session 4 – Planning and delivering a lesson. Between each training session there will be activities that will need to be completed before the next session. In addition to the central training delegates will receive one on-site visit during the teaching phase and an impact assessment visit when one cycle of the Programme is complete.

  9. It’s a very effective programme, but there is no magic involved Its success, like all interventions, will depend on: the children and the way in which it is used.
