  1. Boundaries and Relationships • Introduction • We need boundaries in the form of rules and regulations, and to conform to the norms of society • in order to maintain harmonious relationships with the different strata of society.

Summary • Using Robert Frost’s poem Mending Wall as the basis of the project, • students learn about the different types of relationships they have with others • how they interact in each relationship; • the boundaries in relationships; • to appreciate nature and their surroundings and • to express their ideas creatively in everyday words. • Students hold debates and forums for the school communities, publish reports and poems in newspapers and discuss the issue in blogs with public figures (e.g.PM). • Students check their progress and improve the project through their own checklist, and feedback from the teacher and their peers

Learning outcomes • .Students should be able to • 1. discuss the terms relationships and boundaries from different perspectives. • 2. interpret the levels of meaning in the poem MendingWall. • 3. debate the issue of boundaries in different types of relationships. • 4. discuss the implications of boundaries in relationships. • 5. write a critique on the concept 1Malaysia in newspapers • 6. create poetry on relationship(s) using ordinary words (simple diction)

  4. Curriculum -Framing Questions • EQ: Solitude and loneliness • UQs:1. Do we need boundaries in life? • 2. Suggest ways we can improve the relationship among the various ethnic groups in Malaysia • 3. What are the implications of a borderless world? • CQs: 1.Make a list of the rules we have to abide with at school, at home an in public places • 2. Who are the people you have direct relationship with?

  5. Products & Assessments • Products: • debates, forums, creating poems, blogs, newspaper reports • Assessments; • A set of questions, brainstorming + T-chart, • Checklists, Reflection Sheets & Suggestion Sheets

  6. Time line • Before: A set of questions, Students brainstorm on the topic & fill the T-chart • While: Checklist for debates, forums and written critiques • After: Reflection sheet for all the activities, Suggestion sheet for all the activities
