TVnews – a free, online, self-access English learning platform Objectives • Encourage students to learn English via multimedia and authentic online resources • Help students to build up their habit of viewing English news • Enrich students’ vocabulary and enhance their listening skills • Increase students’ awareness of social affairs in HK • Enhance students’ self-access learning and IT skills

  3. TVnews 06/07 – Characteristics http://tvnews.hkedcity.net/ Two sections: ‘News Archive’ and ‘News Practice’

  4. News Archive – a. Daily local English news – for easy access and frequent viewing b.A Student Forum – discussion topics provided How about asking students to view the news at home and prepare a sharing of their feelings about the news in front of the class orally for 3 mins before each lesson?

  5. News Practice – a.online exercises on vocabulary, listening and writing b.38 exercises and 13 quizzes c. updated every Monday and Thursday by 2.00p.m. from 13th Nov 2006 – 31st May 2007, for about 26 weeks, excluding public holidays

  7. TVnews 06/07 – each Exercise • Before you watch: What you know, New Words and Phrases • Watch: videos + different types of questions + marked instantly. Students will know the correct answers and their scores • After watching: News Extra, Student Forum, Links, Voting • My Learning Log: guidelines + sample sentences + Student’s learning reflection
