  4. Using words from reading stories Tests on Fridays Spelling Menu Use Spelling City Tests every other week (usually on Thursday). Multiple-choice and short answer tests Spelling/WW

  5. Reading • Literature-based instruction using new basal • Literature Circles with novels • Direct instruction of comprehension skills • AR/Independent Reading • Tests and quizzes • Homework

  6. English • Grammar – each chapter of grammar has a directed writing assignment • Writing – not only in English class, but in content areas • Homework • Tests and quizzes

  7. Math • Traditional • Multiplication Facts – must know • Homework • OMG – Outstanding Math Guide • Weekly word problems

  8. Math Grading System • Tests – count 50% • Word problems and quizzes – 30% • Homework and Math Minutes – 20%

  9. Science • Investigative • Scientific Method • Five modules –Measurement, Solar Energy, Levers and Pulleys, Models and Designs, Living Systems • Science notebooks • Tests – notes will be in their binders

  10. Spanish - Sra. Quinn • Spanish is an academic subject in 5th grade. • Students will be graded with letter and number grades. • Students will have vocabulary quizzes and grammar/usage tests for each unit we cover. • Quizzes and tests are sent home for parent’s signature • Homework will be assigned every week and it will be due as assigned by teacher. • Homework will be posted on the 5th grade website http://www.teacherweb.com/GA/episcopaldayschool/5thgrade/

  11. Fifth Grade Musical Musical consists of three major parts: singing, dancing and dialogue Auditions Announcing the musical Every child has a role on stage.

  12. Absence Policy • All missed assignments must be completed within 3 days after returning to school. • If a student is tardy, all assignments for missed classes must be completed by the end of the day.

  13. Special Events • Field Trips Constitution Day - Sept.18, 2012 • Fifth Grade Musical!!! (May 1st)
