  2. Quality Decisions • Pollution is any harmful substance that contaminates the soil, water, or atmosphere.

  3. Quality Decisions • Nonpoint source pollution is pollution that cannot be traced back to a single point.

  4. Quality Decisions • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed Best Management Practices (BMP) to reduce or prevent nonpoint source pollution.

  5. Quality Decisions • Some examples of these Best Management Practices are: Picking Up Your Dog’s Waste Using Fertilizer Sparingly Buffer Zones

  6. Quality Decisions • Buffer Zones are anything that separate two other things.

  7. Quality Decisions • In relation to nonpoint source pollution, buffer zones are areas of vegetation that separate the rest of the land from the water. They prevent fertilizer, animal waste, and other contaminants from getting washed into the water.
