  2. Issues international transfer students encounter • Communication barriers • Language barrier • Cultural rift • Lack of articulation agreements • Frustration with duration of time to graduate • A radical shift sometimes to 2 year institutions and other 4 year schools

  3. Issues international transfer students encounter • Issues of understanding academic integrity • Issues of explaining academic integrity(transcripts evaluation) • Issues of understanding and explaining the importance of immersing into college life e.g honors programs, campus involvement etc.

  4. More Advising Issues • Advisors challenge with understanding the way different systems work internationally • International students feeling of uncertainty and doubt in a new environment.

How to move forward • Cultural sensitivity on the advisors part • Paying attention to non-verbal cues • Mandatory American culture class(1 credit hour) • Immersing international students to the similar opportunities where appropriate (e.g internships, honors programs etc.) • Mandatory transitional/remedial English classes(UT offers this) • Remembering this is their home away from home.
