When we are in Christ • We put off our former conduct • We must change! Romans 6:2-6 • Galatians 5:24, 6:14, Colossians 3:9 - we crucify the old man & evil deeds • We quit practicing sinful behavior Romans 13:12, Colossians 3:5-9, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 John 3:6-7, 9
When we are in Christ • We put off our former conduct • There is a cost (surrender) in becoming a child of God Matthew 19:21-22, Luke 9:23-25 • Are you different now? Cf. 1 Peter 4:3-4
When we are in Christ • We put off our former conduct • The old man grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts • He craves deceitful desires • Deceit – it lies to you! Hebrews 3:13, Colossians 2:8, Mark 7:22 • Matthew 6:24
When we are in Christ • We are renewed in our mind • A new mindset • We need that “came to himself” moment (cf. Luke 15:17) • We surrender! Colossians 3:10
When we are in Christ • We are renewed in our mind • Renewal – becoming reestablished in a new and improved state • Romans 12:1-2Colossians 3:1-22 Corinthians 10:4-5, bringing every thought into captivity
When we are in Christ • We put on the new man • When you remove former conduct, it must be replaced with something godly • Matthew 12:43-45 • This is understood in dealing with addictions
