  3. WHAT IS INDUSTRY ? DEFINITION: • THE ACTIVITIES IN WHICH THE NATURE OF GOODS ARE CHANGED OR ENRICHED IN SUCH A WAY THAT INCREASES ITS VALUE IS KNOWN AS INDUSTRY. • EX. MAKING SUGAR FROM SUGARCANE • MAKING FERTILIZER FROM DIFFERENT CHEMICALS. INDUSTRY

  4. CLASSIFICATION OF INDUSTRIES ACCORDING TO RAW MATERIAL BEING USED ACCORDING TO OWNERSHIP ACCORDING TO SIZE INDUSTRY

INDUSTRIES BASED ON RAW MATERIALS • AGRO BASED INDUSTRIES: the industries which get raw materials from agriculture. i.e. oil industries, cotton industries • MINERAL BASED INDUSTRIES the industries which get raw materials from minerals. i.e. steel industries • MARINE BASED INDUSTRIES the industries which get raw materials from seas. i.e. food processing industries • FOREST BASED INDUSTRIES the industries which get raw materials from forests. i.e. paper industries, furniture industries INDUSTRY

INDUSTRIES ACCORDING TO OWNERSHIP A: PRIVATE SECTOR: The ownership of the company lies in one person’s or a group of person’s hand. i.e. TISCO, RIM B: PUBLIC SECTOR: The ownership of the company lies in Govt. hand. i.e. SAIL, GAIL. C: JOINT SECTOR: The ownership of the company lies in individual and the Govt. hand jointly. i.e. MARUTI UDYOG Ltd. INDUSTRY

  7. INDUSTRIES ACCORDING TO SIZE • COTTAGE INDUSTRIES: run with the help of limited resources like labour, capital at village level. i.e. pickle, papad industries etc. B. SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES : have total investment of less than one crore rs. And with less machinery. i.e. cycle industry C. LARGE SCALE INDUSTRIES: have total investment of more than one crore rs.and required much machineries. i.e. automobile industries; heavy machinery industries etc. INDUSTRY
