  2. Introduction The art of Mesopotamia has survived in the archaeological record from early cultures like the Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian and Assyrian empires. These empires were later replaced in the Iron Age by the Neo-Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian empires.

  3. INTRODUCTION 2 Widely considered to be the cradle of civilization Mesopotamia brought significant cultural developments, including the oldest examples of writing. Many sculptures were made out of stone and clay; little painting has survived, but what has suggests that painting was mainly used for geometrical and plant-based decorative schemes, though most sculptures were usually painted.

  5. Tell asmar figures Tell Asmar figures are statues that are three dimensional figures made out marble from 2700 BC. The tallest figures stand at about 30 inches tall, he represents the God of Vegetation. They were worshipped in hope that they would bring fertility to women and their crops, which is another connection to African culture!!!! The next largest figures are Priests. The smallest figures are worshippers. We learn to read picture symbols. The bodies are cylindrical and scarcely differentiated by gender, with their uplifted heads and hands clasped. This is a pose of supplication-wanting or waiting for something.

  6. A clay beaker The clay beaker is decorated with beautiful designs, this one in particular is in mint condition These clay beakers were made around the years 6000-5000 B.C.. In this age The Mesopotamians massed produced pottery like this one below. Vessels and other Objects fired clay were found in great abundance at sites near the Euphrates River. They had Simple, even crude decoration and were produced on a fast potter’s wheels.
