Using MS Front Page to create and apply an external style sheet (CSS) to your HTML pages

Style sheets are very useful in web site design since you can use them to maintain a consistent look and feel on your web site. These instructions assume that you have already created at least one page for your web site in MS Front Page.

Getting started
  • Launch FrontPage.
  • Create a new page in Front Page.
  • In New from Template, click Page Templates.
  • Click StyleSheets and then choose Normal Style Sheet from the available list.
  • Save this new CSS file as 271webstyle.css.

  • Click Style in Format or in the small box in the middle of your screen.

The Style dialog box appears.

  • Click body in Styles.
  • Click Modify.
  • In Modify Styles, click Format.
  • In Format, click Font.
  • In Font, make changes to the font.
  • Click OK in each dialog box and check to see if the changes are appropriate.
  • Continue to work in this way to modify the style for your web pages.
  • If you have done everything correctly, this style will be applied to any pages you have created in this web site.

To assign a cascading style sheet to a particular HTML page in MS Front Page
  • In Page view, select the page to which you want to assign a CSS.
  • In Format, click Style Sheet Links.

The Link Style Sheet dialog box appears.

  • If the your CSS is not visible, click Add.

The Select Style Sheet dialog box appears.

  • In the Select Style Sheet dialog box, click your CSS.
  • Click OK.
  • On the URL list, select your CSS.
  • To assign the selected CSS to all of the pages in your web site, click All Pages.
