  3. Statistics (Secure) • Users 1327 • Active users 310 • Files 36,667,000 • Total Storage 2.7 petabytes • Accesses(month) 538,475 • Cartridges 23084

  4. HPSS Configuration (Open) • Primary server P 630 • FTP server (p-615) • 6 9840 tape drives, 34 9940A/B tape drives • 800 GB SSA and LSI disk • 3 disk movers and 14 tape movers(P 615) • Data transfer network(Gig-E)

  5. HPSS Configuration (Secure) • Primary server P 650 • 15 9840, 51 9940B, 9 9940A drives • SSA and LSI disk(app. 12 TB) • 6 disk movers and 30 tape movers. • Data transfer network(Gig-E)

  6. Current HPSS performance • Small file insertion rate per user (5/sec). • Aggregate(25-30/sec.) • File deletion rate per user(25-30/sec.) • 4 way tape stripe(9940B): 150-180 MB/sec. • 16 way stripe(9940B): 600-650 MB/sec. • Non-striped disk : 10-60 MB/sec. • Theoretical aggregate in secure should be over 3.5 GB/sec.

  7. Future HPSS performance • Going to new Titanium drives(120 MB/sec.) • Looking for post 6.2 enhancements to improve small file performance. • PSI parallel tar capability using HTAR. Mark will discuss.

  8. Problems and concerns • DB2 deadlocks in core server(diskspace) • RAIT is probably dead. Using delayed second tape copies now. • Delays in 6.2. We need this by fall. • Memory growth in 5.1. We are not running 5.1 patch. • Decreased staffing.

  9. Unique features at LANL • PSI – home grown interface. Integrated with LSF. Provides multi-node capability. Can configure striping width and number of nodes dynamically based on config files. • Local mod to allow selected users to change ownership of files they own. • Mercury – allow secure movement of data between systems.

  10. Wish List • Faster small file performance. • Small file aggregation. • Grid FTP with multi-node capability. • Support new Titanium drives.
