  1. Longitudinal or Transverse?

  2. Parts of a Transverse Wave

  3. The Speed of Light American physicist, Albert Michelson proved that the speed of light was 300 000 km/s or 300 000 000 m/s.

  4. The 4 fundamental forces of nature…without it we would all fly apart • Strong • Weak • Electromagnetic • Gravitational

  5. The Electromagnetic Spectrum

  6. What does ‘Electromagnetic’ mean? • When an electric charge (usually in motion) produces a magnetic field….so electromagnetic means ‘relating to magnetism and electricity

  7. What does the word ‘Spectrum’ mean? • The word ' spectrum' (the plural of which is 'spectra') comes from a Latin word, spectare, which means 'to make a display out of something'

  8. A few important facts before we begin • All the waves on the EM spectrum travel at the same speed…the speed of light… 300 000 000 m/s or 300 000 km/s

  9. A few important facts before we begin 2) Each wave has a different wavelength 3) Each wave has a different frequency
