College athletes are one of the most precious groups of young members of our society. Not only are they ambitious and driven but also extremely hardworking. While balancing education, on the one hand, they also strive for excellence in various forms. However, one of the most disheartening aspects about college athletes was that they were not allowed to make profits through endorsements or any other viable sources. Previously the NCAA prohibited college athletes from accepting remuneration from external sources. It was done to maintain amateurism in sports because these athletes were not professionals yet. This directly meant that since college athletes are still learning, they should not be provided with compensation. The NCAA believed that it was sufficient for college athletes to thrive only on stipends and scholarships.

This not only put excruciating pressure on athletes but also demotivated them, especially when they were not being provided with necessary remuneration. Hence the change was made so that division 1 athletes do not have to face any major restrictions for being compensated from external sources. In the past, college athletes could entirely lose eligibility or be suspended if this rule was ever violated. How can they make money now?
Now that college athletes have the choice to make money from external sources, it is all about how they can put this to use. For many major athletes, money is not a concern, and they simply want to keep focusing on their careers. However, being able to come into light with more popularity is something that no one can resist. At this juncture, it is all about how athletes can market themselves. This can range from taking sponsor deals on various social media handles such as YouTube and Twitter and becoming brand ambassadors for companies. Football players can start endorsing companies that produce merchandise, whereas a gymnast can start popularizing by endorsing local gymnasiums. There has to be some level of creativity incorporated in how these students can make the most out of this underprivilege.
