  1. 5 Oldest Fossils The Enthusiasts Should Know In the world full of people with crazy hobbies, fossil collection is one of the interesting ones as every fossil comes with its own story. From prehistoric mako sharkto dinosaur and marine reptiles, fossils help us understand the life on our planet. Several major questions which have troubled human minds for long time has been solved with these old structures such as how life started on Earth and what sort of creatures were there ages ago. The study of fossils has helped scientists to learn our history. Any specimen older than ten thousand years is considered as a fossil and there is a list of specimens which are millions of years old. Our planet is more than four billion years old and oldest fossils are more than three billion years old. Here is a list of five of the oldest fossils the scientists have collected in a vast spend of time. 1.Hematite tubes - Discovered in early 2017 in Quebec, Canada, tubelike microscopic bacteria present hematite ore is currently being considered as the oldest fossil in the world. The scientists who found the fossils are assuming that they are nearly 3.7 billion years old. The structure found embedded in crystal and formed around hydrothermal vents. Th scientists are hopeful that this new discovery may help in shedding some light on the early life on our planet.

  2. 2.Stromatolites - Found in Archaen Rocks in Australia, stromatolites have layered rock like formation. The oldest stromatolite are approximately 3.5 billion years old and are formed by cyanobacteria, an ancient blue-green algae. 3.“Seaweed-like” fossils - In 2016, the researchers from China discovered “seaweed-like” fossils near Beijing. The organisms stuck in the fossils took researchers by surprise as they were visible by the naked eyes. Nearly 167 fossils were discovered and dated to approximately 1.56 billion years old. 4. Pikaia - Found in 1911 by Charles Walcott, Pikaia fossils was found in Pika Peak in Alberta, Canada. Being known as ancestor of modern vertebrates, the Pikaia fossils are 523 million years old. 5.Redlichiida - Found in the Emy Bay shales of Southern Australia and the Maotianshan shales in China, Redlichiidas are nearly 500 million years old. According to the scientists, earliest Redlichiida are the ancestors of all other trilobite species. When it comes to studying and knowing about fossils, the knowledge pool is vast. So, if you are into fossils like prehistoric mako shark or marine reptiles, do not forget to learn about their time period and the method behind their formation.
