  1. MG 1.4 Lesson 12-6 Perimeter

  2. The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. First we need to find the length of each side. 8 cm 6 cm 6 cm 8 cm The perimeter of the shape is 8 + 6 + 8 + 6 = 28cm.

  3. The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. First we need to find he length of each side. 10 cm 8 cm 8 cm 10 cm The perimeter of the shape is 10 + 10 + 8 + 8 = 36 cm.

  4. The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. First we need to find he length of each side. 7 cm 4 cm The perimeter of the shape is 7 + 7 + 4 + 4 = 22cm.

  5. 6cm 5cm 3cm 18cm 4cm 18cm 2cm 6cm What is the perimeter of each of these shapes? Your teacher will give you copy of the worksheet. 5cm 22cm 7cm 18cm 11cm 2cm 26cm

  6. Mrs. Spoden has a desk in the shape of a rectangle, the sides are 4 meters long and 8 meters wide. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?

  7. Mrs. Spoden has a square book one side is 15 meters long, what is the perimeter?

  8. 4cm 4cm 5cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 7cm 7cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 4cm 4cm 3cm 3cm Now find the perimeter of these shapes. Perimeter = 18cm Perimeter = 22cm Perimeter = 28cm

  9. MG 1.1 &1.4 Lesson 12-7 Area

  10. The area of a shape is the amount of space inside it. To find out the area inside the shape we can count the squares. The area of the shape is 18cm2.

  11. Counting each square can take a long time. Does anyone know a quicker way? The rectangle is made of 6 rows of 8 squares. To work out the number of squares we multiply 6 by 8. 8cm 6cm The area of the shape is 48cm2.

  12. 5cm 6cm 3cm 18cm2 4cm 20cm2 2cm 6cm What is the area of each of these shapes? Your teacher will give you copy of the worksheet. 5cm 30cm2 7cm 14cm2 11cm 2cm 22cm2

  13. We can work out the area of a rectangle without the grid. length 10cm 7cm width Area = length x width Remember Area means how many squares 10 X 7 = 70 Area = 70 cm2

  14. We can work out the area of a rectangle without the grid. length 11cm Area = length x width 3cm width

  15. What is the area and perimeter of these shapes? What two shapes have the same area but different perimeters? 6cm 5cm 2cm 5cm 10cm 1cm 3cm 4cm 10cm 2cm

  16. We can find the area without a picture. l = Means length, w = means width To find the area we l x w l = 13 cm, w = 6 cm What is the area?

  17. You try!Find the Area of the rectangle • l = 5 cm, w = 8 cm • l = 9 cm, w = 3 cm Find the Area of the square • S = 4 cm • S = 15 cm

  18. MG 1.2 & 1.3 Lesson 12-9 Area vs. Perimeter

  19. What rectangles have the same area but different perimeters? 7cm 5cm 35cm2 4cm 5cm 20cm2 10cm 20cm2 12.5cm 2cm 25cm2 2cm

  20. A rectangle has the length of 3 feet and the width of 5 feet. Which of the following have the same perimeter but different Area? a) 15ft long and 1 ft wide b) 6 ft long and 4 ft wide c) 4ft long and 4ft wide d) 2 ft long and 12ft wide

  21. A square has the area of 25 what is the perimeter?

  22. A rectangle has the length of 4 and an area of 12 what is the width?

  23. A rectangle has the length of 7 and an area of 42 what is the width?

  24. A rectangle has the length of ____ and an area of ____ what is the width?

  25. MG 1.4 Lesson 12-8 Area of Irregular Figures

  26. 4cm 2cm To find the area of this shape we have to split it up into two rectangles. 4cm 10cm 8cm 8cm

  27. To find the area of this shape we have to split it up into two rectangles. 4cm 2cm 4cm 10cm 8cm 8cm

  28. To find the area of this shape we have to split it up into two rectangles. 4cm 2cm 4cm 10cm 8cm 8cm

  29. 4cm Total area = 40 + 32 = 72 cm2 2cm To find the area of this shape we have to split it up into two rectangles. 4cm Area = 4 x 10 10cm Area = 4 x 8 8cm 40cm2 32cm2 8cm

  31. 5cm 2cm Area = 4 x 5 Area = 5 x 9 4cm 9cm 5cm 20cm2 45cm2 4cm 2cm 5cm Total area = 45 + 20 = 65 cm2 Perimeter = 36 cm

  32. 2cm 5cm 11cm 4cm 6cm 6cm Total area = 10 + 36 = 46 cm2 Perimeter = 34 cm Area = 2 x 5 Area = 6 x 6 10cm2 36cm2

  33. Total area = 28 + 16 + 21 = 65 cm2 Perimeter = 42 cm There is another way of doing this question. Area = 4 x 7 Area = 4 x 4 4cm 3cm 3cm 3cm Area = 3 x 7 4cm 7cm 7cm 28cm2 16cm2 21cm2 11cm

  34. Total area = 77 – 12 = 65 cm2 Perimeter = 42 cm Area = 3 x 4 12cm2 4cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 4cm 7cm 7cm Area = 7 x 11 77cm2 11cm
