Here's a list of a few Do's and Don'ts while in Spain:

DO:

Dress up. When in doubt, dress up, not down, for the occasion.

Wear jeans. They're popular, and neutral- they go with anything.

Wear nice shoes, not ones that are falling apart. As a tourist you want to wear shoes that will support you in the amount of walking you'll do.

To business meetings: If you're a man- wear jacket and tie. If a woman then wear a dress or skirt.

DON'T:

Wear shorts into a church. (Show some respect, religion is still a large part of their lifestyle.)

Wear mini-skirts (or shorts) in the city. It's ok for the beach, but otherwise you'll be recognized as tourist. Keep the strappy tops and skimpy bikini tops for the beach, too, otherwise, expect some unwanted attention.

Wear brightly colored clothes. Stick to neutral colors, and coordinating your outfit.

Look like a tourist. Thieves/pickpockets are watching for you. So, no shorts, sandals, or super casual clothing unless you're at the beach.

La Historia de España

  • Spain is located on the Iberic Peninsula and is almost as large as California and Georgia combined. Spain’s capital, Madrid, is located in the center of the country. Over the years, Spain has been inhabited by many groups including Romans, Moors, and Arabs. These groups were driven out by Catholic monarchs who united Spain as a single nation. Spain grew powerful by colonizing in North and South America.

La Historia

  • Spain endured a civil war in 1936, after which time General Franco became dictator. In 1978, three years after Franco’s death, Spain became a constitutional monarch under King Juan Carlos. There is still pressure even today from the Catalan and Basque nationalists for increased self-government in their regions.

El Flamenco

Flamenco is a form of music, singing, and dance that began in Spain, and many Spaniards adore it. The songs are passionate, the dances are often fast, and the music—played on guitar—has great energy. Originally from the province of Andalucía, flamenco is thought to be a mix of Gypsy, Arab, and Jewish music. Spanish gypsies have kept the tradition alive.
