The British came to invade the fort. The significance of this so called "battle" was that an inspired man named Francis Scott Key wrote a poem that eventually became the "Star-Spangled Banner".

  • Major General Andrew Jackson leading the Americans against the British intent on taking control of New Orleans. 
  • Final battle of the war – War already ended/ Treaty of Ghent December 1814, but the news did not reach until after the battle was over.
  • Andrew Jackson and his army kept the British from seizing New Orleans for more than half a month. 
  • Andrew Jackson – war hero. Later will become 7th President
