  1. Presentation from Tripuraon GIS implication By Sri M. K. Gop Deputy Secretary & Asstt. SREG Commissioner

  2. ABOUT US • Following the guidelines of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Government of Tripura has established Tripura Space Applications Centre as a wing of Tripura State Council for Science & Technology in the year 2000. • Declared as Nodal Centre for all Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) and Geo-spatial Information Technology (GIT) related activities in the State in the year 2006.

  3. OBJECTIVES OF TRIPURA SPACE APPLICATIONS CENTRE • To buildup technical capacity at various levels of administration and intra department’s coordination for enabling the adoption of Geo – spatial Information Technology for integrated development planning. • To provide S&T inputs for framing policies related to Spatial Data Technologies. • To act as a supportive tool for sustainable development and scientific management of State resources. • To strengthen the planning process for integrated scientific resource management through development. • Technology Transfer & Capacity Building of end users. • To forge linkages with the users at different levels.

  4. RESOURCES OF TSAC • Hard-wares : • One Data Server and one Web Server. • Eight Workstations, Two mobile Workstations and • Three Laptops. • One Laser Printer (A 3 size) • One Color Scanner (A 0 size) • One Plotter (A 0 size) • Six Hand-held GPS • One DGPS and one Total Station • One GPR • RS & GIS Soft-wares : • GIS Soft-wares • Virtual GIS Soft-ware • Networking GIS Soft-ware • Image Processing Soft-ware • contd……

  5. Trained Manpower • Presently, 8 (Eight) Scientists / Engineers are working in the Centre. To meet the present and future challenges the Tripura Space Applications Centre has categorized its activities into the following divisions : • Water Resource Management Division • Agriculture & Environment Division • Urban Planning and Research & Development Division • Land Use Planning Division • Geosciences & Disaster Management Division • Rural Resource Management Division • Utility, Training and Publication Division RESOURCES OF TSAC

  6. WORKS DONE SINCE INCEPTION • State Resource Mapping : A RS & GIS Approach • Pineapple Cultivation : Land Suitability Study for Extension

  7. WORKS DONE SINCE INCEPTION • DAM Site Suitability Study : Merucharra of Satchand R D Block • Inventorization of Waterbodies : Khowai & Agartala

  8. WORKS DONE SINCE INCEPTION • Natural Resource Information System (NRIS) • Urban Resource Information System (URIS)

  9. WORKS DONE SINCE INCEPTION • Land Use/Land Cover – 50K scale, under National Resource Census (NRC) • National Urban Information System (NUIS) • Land Degradation Mapping – 50K, under National Resource Census (NRC)

  10. WORKS DONE SINCE INCEPTION • Rudrasagar : Study on Conservation & Protection • Geo-spatial Information Technology (GIT)

  11. ONGOING PROJECTS • National Urban Information System (NUIS) for Khowai & Kailashahar (Sponsored by National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad) • National Wasteland Monitoring Using Multi Temporal Satellite Data (Sponsored by National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad) • Delineation of Rubber Growing Areas of the State (In-house project) • Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Sericulture Development (Sponsored by North Eastern Space Application Centre) • Vulnerability Mapping and Assessment – Disaster Management Perspective for the entire State (Sponsored by Revenue Department, Govt. of Tripura)

  12. As discussed earlier the Centre has already developed and implemented Web Enabled Decision Support System (DSS) called as Geo-spatial Information Technology (GIT) in the State and it is now available within NIC Network & SWAN

  13. BROAD SECTORS OF APPLICATION • Agricultural Resource Management • Urban Planning & Development . • Land & Water Resources Management . • Security Planning & Management. • Environmental Planning . • Forest Resources Management & Planning . • Rural Resources Management & Planning . • Health facilities & Disease prone area zonation. • Power sector Management & Planning.

  14. NEED OF CREATION OF STATE DIGITAL DATA WAREHOUSE • Qualitative planning using state digital data. • Prepare macro & micro based plan using digital data with different scale. • It is easy to modify as per user department’s requirement. • It is editable in the implementation stage. • Data updating is possible only through Constant Interface. • Data warehouse to capture user dept’s requirement

  15. CREATION OF STATE DIGITAL DATA WAREHOUSE (1:25,000 for planning and 1:10,000 for implementation purpose) Proposed time frame for completion of State Digital Data Warehouse Start Date : 1st October 2009 End Date : 31st March 2011

  16. BACKGROUND OF PRESENT INITIATIVE OF TRIPURA SPACE APPLICATIONS CENTRE • The Government of Tripura has put all out effort to utilise all potential natural resources of the State with a “no net loss” goal, specially for use of land & water acreage and function. • Accordingly a Task Force was formed by the General Body of the Tripura State Council for Science & Technology in it’s 9th meeting and the meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Tripura. • The Task Force has identified some mismatch in scientific approach & management in Land and Water resources planning and recommended for creation of State Digital Data Warehouse to support and lead the State towards scientific planning and overall management of resources.

  17. PROPOSED INTERFACE WITH THE USER DEPARTMENTS • User Departments to be sensitized on the usage of Remote Sensing & GIS data. • Head of User Departments will appoint one Nodal Officer from their respective Department. • The Nodal Officer from User Departments will act as an interface between the Tripura Space Applications Centre and the User Departments. • TSAC appointed Nodal Officers. • Tripura Space Applications Centre will design and develop a user friendly data dissemination programme and impart necessary training to the users.
