EARLY UNIVERSE STUDIES 100 years ago people thought everything in outer space never changes Celestial Bodies which are also describes as the sun , moon ,planets , etc.
EDWIN HUBBLE He was the first to identify other galaxies other than the milky way All galaxies were movingaway from each other. By 1929 he estimated the distance form earth to 46 galaxies A telescope was named after him called the Hubble telescope Most of his finds were by Red shift analysis
RED SHIFT ANALYSIS Is consisted of electromagnetic waves and spectral patterns Visible light is electromagnetic radiation It is energy carried in forms of waves Examples are microwaves, radio waves and x rays
RED SHIFT ANALYSIS (CONT) Spectral patterns occur when white light splits into bands of colourthrough a prism An example of white light is a desk lamp or the sun The band of colors are called the spectrum Each color has a different wavelength A spectroscope is an instrument that acts like a prism to separate light
BLUE SHIFT ANALYSIS Blue shift is the decrease in wavelength Opposite of redshift The Andromeda galaxy and the Barnard’s star are examples of blue shift
What are Celestial bodies? 2. What is Electromagnetic radiation? 3. What was Edwin Hubble’s proposal? 4. What is Cosmological red shift? 5. What did the astronomer Edwin Hubble find out about the movement that happened in galaxies? ANSWERS Celestial bodies is a general term for all objects in the sky, including the sun, moon, planets, and stars. Electromagnetic Radiation is energy that is carried, Or radiated, in the form of waves. Edwin Hubble’s went on to propose that the universe is expanding in all directions. He also suggested that all galaxies have taken the same amount of time to reach their present positions from an original starting point. The wavelengths are radiated light are being constantly stretched as the light crosses an expanding universe .It is called cosmological red shift. The galaxies that are farther away are moving faster than the galaxies closer to ours.
