  1. Green Technology By:-JaideepNema Amish Ejaz NarayanGhimire

  2. What is Green Technology? Environmental technology (envirotech), green technology (greentech) or clean technology (cleantech) is the application of one or more of environmental science, green chemistry, environmental monitoring and electronic devices to monitor, model and conserve the natural environment and resources, and to curb the negative impacts of human involvement. The term is also used to describe sustainable energy generation

  3. Principles and Areas of Green Technology:-

  4. Environmental Science Environmental science is a multi-disciplinary science that teaches us to protect and sustain our natural resources of land, water, air and vegetation. There is an increasing awareness in the community and willingness to adopt measures to protect our environment from degrading effects of all forms of pollution

  5. Green Chemistry The term green chemistry is defined as: The invention, design and application of chemical products and processes to reduce or to eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.

  6. Sustainable Development Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

  7. Environmental Monitoring Environmental monitoring describes the processes and activities that need to take place to characterise and monitor the quality of the environment. Environmental monitoring is used in the preparation of environmental impact assessments, as well as in many circumstances in which human activities carry a risk of harmful effects on the natural environment

  8. Renewable Energy Renewable energy is energy that comes from resources which are continually replenished such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat

  9. Advantages of Green Technology • It minimizes the degradation of the environment. • It has a zero or low green house gas (GHG) emission. • It is safe for use and promotes healthy and improved environment. • It conserves the use of energy, natural and renewable resources. • It increases the quality of life and health standards since it minimizes pollution to a great extent. • an alternative to improving the national economy without harming the environment

  10. Biomass Biomass is a renewable energy resource derived from the carbonaceous waste of various human and natural activities. It is derived from numerous sources, including the by-products from the timber industry, agricultural crops, raw material from the forest, major parts of household waste and wood.

  11. Wind Energy and Wind Energy A wind turbine is a device that converts kinetic energy from the wind, also called wind energy, into mechanical energy; a process known as wind power.

  12. Electric Vehicles An electric vehicle or EV, by definition uses an electric motor for propulsion rather than being powered by a gasoline-powered motor. Besides the electric car: bikes, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, and trains have all been powered by electricity.

  13. SolarCells A solar cell (also called a photovoltaic cell) is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricityby the photovoltaic effect. It is a form of photoelectric cell (in that its electrical characteristics—e.g. current, voltage, or resistance—vary when light is incident upon it) which, when exposed to light, can generate and support an electric current without being attached to any external voltage source

  14. Hydrogen Fuel Cell The hydrogen fuel cell operates similar to a battery. It has two electrodes, an anode and a cathode, separated by a membrane. Oxygen passes over one electrode and hydrogen over the other.

  15. Hydroelectricity Hydro-electricity uses the energy of running water to make electrical energy. Hydro-electric stations are built where there is running water. Most hydro-electric stations are located in dams where water is stored. But hydro-electric stations can also be built on rivers and near waterfalls.

  16. Disadvantages of Green Technology

  17. Large Capital Investment:- Taking major steps to go green such as adding new insulation, roofing or windows to a home can require a large capital investment Technological Intractability :- Virtually all of the green energy technologies face some kind of significant technological hurdle. Conversion Expense:- . The cost reductions in energy savings gained by going green are not always enough to offset the initial upfront conversion costs Time:-Adopting a green lifestyle can often be time-consuming for those who are fully committed to green living Environmental Impact:- :-Going green can also potentially have a negative effect on the environment sometimes.

  18. Conclusion Although   there are some defects of  green   technology, every thing   done should have both positive impacts and negative impacts. Since we are now   still at a starting stage of developing green technology, some defects are   due to its immature. For example, defects like low efficiency can be solved,   when we keeping on putting effort in doing research and improvement.  In fact, one of us will agree   that problems like global warming and energy crisis can not be solved within   one or two years. It really requires our determination and continue effort in   improving the situation. Green technology will definitely be the solution   that gets the potential in helping us to solve those problems and improve our   environment
