  1. Roll out Meeting for New Regional Ministry Design Seven Meetings held throughout ABCOPAD from October-December, 2010

  2. Roll-out meetings were held at the following locations throughout the Region….. • FBC, Meadville • FBC, Greensburg • United Baptist Church, Scranton • FBC, Mansfield • West Shore Baptist , Camp Hill • Calvary Baptist Church, Newark, DE • The Baptist Church of Phoenixville

  3. The challenges that brought us here…. • The precipitous drop in United Mission giving in our region has been staggering. While we are not alone in the trend, it’s impact on our ministry is profound. (from 1999 to 2010 we have seen a decrease in United Mission Basic support of $555,000 over the period) • UM has served as the major source for funding regional ministry. • A significant shift in support to Targeted Giving in recent years, especially in response to the development of Missionary Partnership Teams. • The chart to the right indicates the significant increase over just one year.

  4. A picture is worth a thousand words…in the following slides you will see the giving history for United Mission for each one of the current areas in ABCOPAD…

  5. Northwest United Mission Giving

  6. Southwest United Mission Giving

  7. Pittsburgh United Mission Giving

  8. Central United Mission Giving

  9. Northeast United Mission Giving

  10. Southeast United Mission Giving

  11. United Mission Basics

  12. The impact of our times…. • The rising costs of healthcare and other fixed costs have forced the churches of the region to make some hard choices, and often the place that they find they can make a ‘cut’ to help balance their budget is in the area of mission support… • To compensate for these changes, we were one of the earliest regions to institute a Regional Offering (called Partners in Ministry ), and while this has been very successful –it is up 50% over last year’s levels (anticipated to total about $140,000) by the end of this calendar year, it doesn’t begin to offset the % loss in United Mission.

  13. Ways to cope with these factors…. • To help offset the decrease in mission support in recent years, and in order to maintain the same level of regional ministry, our regional board authorized the use of not only interest from our endowment, but also principal….the cupboard is now ‘bare’ • And so, some hard choices were needed…

  14. The Board called for the formation of The Realignment Task Force Mary Lewis—representing the Southwest Area Dan MacDonald—representing the Southeast Area Tim Spring—representing the Pittsburgh Baptist Association Sue Fitzgerald--representing the Central Area Margie McCarty—representing the Northeast Area Kate Preston—representing the Northwest Area Frank Frischkorn—Executive Minister, ABCOPAD

  15. The Task Force Balanced the focus on three very clear concerns….. The Financial Challenges before us… The Relationships that we value with one another as staff, churches, pastoral leaders and our wider regional family…. The call of God to our regional vision…

  16. Following a number of meetings and through significant conversations and prayer the Task Force made a recommendation to the Board, which was approved. The details of the new design are contained in the following document, which is available for download off the ABCOPAD website.

  17. When you open the document one time, you may expect to see an overview of the new look of the regional staff, but you would be wrong. Instead you will see a focus onMinistry Teams
