    5. TEAM ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT The Coach: Role & Purpose (Table of Contents) 4) Guides teams re: • Rules, • Optional points, • Motivation, • Time management, • Deadlines, • Conflict resolution, • Robot design, • Programming possibilities, and • To be on task before and at the event

TEAM ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT Team Size & Member Roles (Table of Contents) • Have FUN; Guided learning; interactive; innovation; standards…BUT if it is not fun…the students (and the adults won’t come back!) • Everyone participates; There is a role for everyone; teams need to share the work • 2 to 4 players per team; The highest grade level determines the division (i.e., one 6th grader on the team? Then it is a Middle school team)

TEAM ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT Team Size & Member Roles (Table of Contents) Four Job Titles & Descriptions Project Manager: • Guides team progress and use of materials • Manages timeline for design, programming, documentation • Trains a second team member for assistance & backup support Hardware Engineer: • Leads robot design and construction for challenge specifics • Manages timeline for completion and testing • Trains a second team member for assistance & backup support

TEAM ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT Team Size & Member Roles (Table of Contents) Software Engineer: • Leads programming for team • Manages back up programs; alternative programming ideas • Trains a second team member for assistance & backup support Communication/Media Specialist: • Leads documentation for online, written, photographs, video • Manages optional point assignments for forum • Trains a second team member for assistance & backup support

TEAM ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT Team Rules & Norms (Table of Contents) Establish rules for how teams will manage themselves re: conflict, equipment management, member communications, division of duties, or excessive absences Contracts re: for cost of equipment and who pays for breakage; being committed to attend the day of the event Using kits? Don’t SHARE parts! Process needed to: replace parts; replace team members
