  1. GeorgiALIbraryLEarningOnline The database used throughout Georgia for library resources. -something few of us love, but all of us use

  2. What? GALILEO is an academic website connected with multiple databases It was created to unify all libraries throughout Georgia into “One Statewide Library”

  3. The Vision Over “2000” libraries throughout Georgia use this resource to further users ability to find scholarly information Universal access to all Georgia residents regardless of their geographic locations Improving information services and support for users and “thus provides a greater return on investment”

  4. Who? Two groups, the Regents Academic Committee on Libraries (RACL) and University System of Georgia (USG) began discussing concerns. In 1989, an IT committee was formed by the Vice Chancellor of Information technology. Dr. J. B. Mathews

  5. How? In 1994, Dr. Stephen Portch, Chancellor of USG deduced that 6 million dollars be used from Georgia’s yearly budget to create and support the GALILEO idea Although those involved in the development were excited they were also skeptical: “Library needs are often unmet because of scarce public dollars”

  6. When? In a little over a YEAR this huge undertaking was proposed, developed, and launched: Proposed: August 1994 Presented to Georgia’s General Assembly and Governor: January 1995 Approved: February 1995 Launched: September 1995

  7. Random GALILEO Facts Google was formed in 1998 three years after GALILEO had been launched A very large reason GALILEO was created is the red tape of accreditation that surrounds all institutions, and alleviating the burden of holding such a collection of resources.

  8. My Opinion… • This technology is very important for libraries and library users, but their must be a better way to give the plethora of information to those who use/need it. • In the library I am asked daily how to research from GALILEO, in order to get users to comprehend gathering research information these are some of my thoughts. • My suggestions: • Get users to begin using it in a bigger scale at younger ages. • Maybe a mobile application for users on the go • Adding popular magazines to the periodicals

  9. Libraries of Future? Many counties will have online libraries… With the rise of the tablet, everything will soon be web based The tangible book will soon become an obsolete thing of the past Honestly I believe it isn’t a matter of what happens next for books, but how new writers will make books/web books just as important as before
