Tourism: a cultural message INTRODUCTION * Tourism promotes cultural exchanges between peoples through dialogues of cultures, civilizations and religions. * Tourism promotes the spirit of openness, tolerance and peace. * Increase awareness of the importance and richness of the universal cultural and archeological heritage.

Tourism: a factor of development • Tourism is a major force in the world economy: • 10% of global GDP • Tourism stimulates employment • Tourism contributes to cover the trade deficit • * Driving-force for other industries • * Factor for changes in the socio-economic level • Factor for regional integration • Tourism contributes to reducing poverty

  4. World tourism growth Growth rate (2007): 6,5% Annual growth : 4% Number of tourists : * 2007 : 900 millions * 2010 : 1 billion * 2020 1,6 billion World receipts : 890 billions US$ Receipts(2020) : 2000 billions

  5. 1-The challenges: In spite of the fact that tourism is a major force in the world economy, it is still vulnerable to many factors which would affect its growth and shape 1-1 Events and crisis - Terrorism - September 11th - Conflicts and wars 1-2 – Natural disasters - Tsunami - Floods 1-3 – Climate change 1-4 - economic crisis

Climate change • Climate change is one of the biggest log-term issues facing the tourist industry • The last decade witnessed tremendous disasters: tsunami, • floods, volcanic eruptions, rise of • Sea level, rise of temperature, • and forest fires…. • Climate change could lead to the loss of many destinations • Whose tourist product depends on their natural environment. • Climate defines the length and the quality of the tourist season.

  8. Climate change -2 Many factors are responsible for the climate change. on the top of the list are human activities which cause global harming and greenhouse gas concentration. Governments and international organizations should necessary budgets for studies and research. - Encourage pollution makers to adjust their activities using cleaner and renewable energies - Promote sustainable tourism To prevent dramatic consequences of climate change common strategy and plans should be commonly implemented
