  2. What are Social Networks? • A social network service focuses on the building and verifying of online social networks for communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others, and which necessitates the use of software. • Most social network services are primarily web based and provide a collection of various ways for users to interact, such as chat, messaging, email, video, voice chat, file sharing, blogging, discussion groups, and so on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_network_service

My Space and Social Networks • Problem #1- Internet Predators • Problem #2- http://www.archive.org/ and • http://www.anywho.com • Problem #3- Too Much Information • People post pictures that sometimes give too much information (addresses, license plates, etc) • Problem #4- People just don’t think (jobs are going on this site before/during employment).

  17. Tips for Exploring Social Networks • Create a Fake Account • Most adults make the mistake of creating a fake “adult” profile to access their kids…you need to create a fake account and make a profile that replicates a teenager • Create a fake e-mail “dump account” when doing this • Kids will not think twice to grant access to their “private account”

  18. Prevention It’s not a big deal until it happens to your or it happens in your town!
