About autoradiography accessories

The autoradiography method provides images of radioactive decay. This high-end technique is used to study the tissue distribution of a protein of interest in vitro based on a particular pharmacological interaction between a radiolabelled compound & its target.

  1. ABOUT AUTORADIOGRAPHY ACCESSORIES

  2. ABOUT Autoradiography is a well-known and sensitive photochemical method used to record the spatial distribution of radiolabeled compounds within an object. Autoradiography accessories are also used in the laboratory.

  3. TYPES • Direct autoradiography: • In this autoradiography method, samples are placed with intimate contact with film & produce black spots on the photographic film. Though this method is not used for high-energy particles such as β-rays & γ-rays as they pass through the film, they are detected by the indirect method.

  4. 2. Indirect autoradiography: In the Indirect autoradiography technique, the emitted energy is converted to light by using the scintillator or fluorography. ‘Scintillators’ are the molecules that possess the capability to luminescence by any ionizing radiation. So, every sample used in this indirect method is coated with a scintillator. Then the radioactive emissions transfer their energy to the scintillator molecules that produce photons & they are exposed to the photographic emulsion.

  5. APPLICATIONS • Localization of a radioactive substance. • Analyze the length & number of DNA. • PET & SPECT for 3-dimensional localization of the radiation source. • Quantitative analysis of macroautographs.
