  2. Abduction vs. Adduction • Abduction – moving your arm or leg away from the center line of your body • Adduction – moving your arm or leg towards the center line of your body • Examples:___________ ______________________ ______________________

  3. Flexion vs. Extension • Flexion – bending at a joint • Extension – extending at a joint • Examples: ____________________________________________________________

  4. Pronation vs. Supination • Pronation • Turning your palm down • OR rolling your ankle inward • Supination • Turning your palm up • OR rolling your ankle outward

  5. Dorsiflexion vs. Plantar Flexion • Dorsiflexion • Flexing your foot • (Bringing your toes towards your shins) • Plantar Flexion • Pointing your toes

Describe an Action Mini-Project • Choose 2 common actions – be creative! • Examples: Throwing a baseball, shooting a basketball, running, doing a cartwheel, doing a certain dance move (keep it clean…) • Use the orange muscle packet to identify the muscles and your notes to identify the muscle movements involved in the actions (put in them in order) • Make a notecard of the action (muscles and muscle movements on one side, action on the other) • Explain/demonstrate for the class – play “name that action”

  7. Example Muscle Action Notecard • Action: Taking a drink of water • 1. Right deltoid flexes to abduct your right arm from your body. • 2. Right Flexor carpi radialis(and other muscles) flex the right wrist and phalanges to pick up the bottle of water. • 3. Right bicep flexes to flex your elbow joint to lift the bottle to your lips to take a drink. • 4. Right tricep flexes to extend your elbow joint to bring the water bottle back down. • 5. Right Extensor digitorum (and other muscles) extend the right wrist and phalanges to release the water bottle. • 6. Right Teresmajor adducts the arm to the body.
