  1. Project: B.C.’s Environmental Issues

  2. Now that you have learned about the interactions between the physical and cultural aspects of a place in your Geography Unit, it is time to learn about the effects these have on locations across B.C.

  3. FORMAT: Documentary(script- 4 pages double-spaced, audio recording- 2 minutes, video recording- 2 min., etc.)

  4. TOPIC: Choose one from the following:

  5. Pine Beetle InfestationFish FarmsAgricultural Land Reserve Loss

  6. Pesticide PoisoningOffshore Oil DrillingClimate Change (impact on B.C.)

  7. Bulk Water ExportsSewage Treatment Nuclear Power

  8. Renewable EnergyAir PollutionOther: See Mr. Mundy for clearance

  9. PROCESS: Include the following in your documentary:

  10. A description of the issue, explaining key concepts for the audience

  11. The impact this issue is having on B.C. (give examples where possible)

  12. Solutions key groups have presented (including B.C. government, interest groups, etc.)

  13. Your opinion on what solutions would work best; what is needed still to solve this?

  14. EVALUATION: /30 MARKS

  15. CONTENT (5 MARKS EACH SECTION RESPONSE) = 20 MARKS

  16. FORMAT (FLOW, DOCUMENTARY LANGUAGE, APPROPRIATE MATERIALS) = 10 MARKS

  18. TIPS: The Seaquam Library and other libraries have specific books on this topic (be sure to also look for information specific to British Columbia situation)

  19. www.davidsuzuki.org–explains many issues listed above, with possible solutions

  20. www.gov.bc.ca–check its various Ministries dealing with these topics

  21. www.canadianalternatives.ca–search their research articles, as they have done many that focus on B.C.’s situation

  22. Speak to Mr. Mundy –he can give you advice and direction that can focus your research
