  1. Short Range Communications: Fiber-Wireless 10G Everywhere Mario Weiss Andreas Stöhr Dieter Jäger Zentrum für Halbleitertechnik und Optoelektronik (ZHO)Universität Duisburg-Essen Campus Duisburg

  2. Photonic-Wireless Link for Access & In-House up to 12.5 Gb/s TX module • Photonic mmw-carrier: DSB modulation & carrier suppression • Data modulation: NRZ up to 12.5 Gb/s • Transmitter & receiver: Compact RoF transmitter / coherent receiver

  3. Indoor and Outdoor Experimental Results Indoor - without TX amplifier • TX RF output power: ~ -7.5dBm (max) • 10Gb/s: Sensitivity: -47.6dBm (BER=10-9) • 10Gb/s: Wireless range: ~ 8.5m (BER=10-4) Outdoor • 10GbE data rates achieved: 10.3125Gb/s @ 40m 12.5 Gb/s @ 20m • TX RF output power: ~ 11dBm (max)

  4. Key Benefits & Application Scenarios • Reduced CD due to carrier suppression compared to conventional DSB-systems • Reduced electrical and optical complexity / number of components • Approx. 700m (99.999% availability) wireless range estimated if 50dBi high gain antennas are used Refs: [1] M.
