  3. GEM-Ames Information Management • Handout: GEM 2007 yield trial summary • GEM CD contains • GEM annual report • GEM germplasm releases and key traits • GEM public cooperators’ reports • GEM lab data reports • Presentations at Cooperators’ meeting • Disease data from cooperators • Yield trial data • GEM information – www.public.iastate.edu/~usda-gem Germplasm Enhancement of Maize

  4. Usage of GEM-Ames website • Usage: germplasm information, seed request, and information about GEM project, etc. • Search engine: Google and key word: gem maize • Visitors: 180/month (down from 250/m last yr) • Re-visitors: 36% (up from 30% last yr) • Top 10 countries with most visitors (in descending order): US, China, India, Canada, Italy, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, & Argentina • Top 10 states/regions with most visitors (in descending order):IA, CA, MO, IL, NC, NY, TX, IN, Beijing (China), & MI Germplasm Enhancement of Maize

  5. Usage of GEM-Ames website World Map of Cumulative Traffic Germplasm Enhancement of Maize

  6. GEM-Ames trial summary - 2007 • Experiments: 48 (up from 37 last year – due to more racial sampling capacity and isolation in-kind support) • Replicated at 4 to 8 locations • Plots: 14,800 (up from 11,300 last year) • Private cooperators’ portion: 57% (down from 65% last year) • GEM portion: 43% (up from 35% last year) Germplasm Enhancement of Maize

  8. GEM-Ames trial summary - 2007 Total Numbers of GEM Yield Trial Plots Germplasm Enhancement of Maize

  9. GEM-Ames trial summary - 2007 • There are 170 (88 last year) GEM topcrosses that out-performed the yield of check means (out of 2330 entries of topcrosses) • 26 topcrosses out-performed the top check • The range of CV’s for yield was from 7.6 to 19.2% (only 1 expt above 15.5%) • Yield trial data - high lodging data this year (good selection for lodging resistant?) 12. GEM-Ames Data Communication • Special thanks to the GEM cooperators who had sent me the data before I even asked for it • Data Communication: Include entry numbers, pedigrees, plot dimension (length x width), planting and harvest dates, and city/state of the locations. • MS Excel Template on the GEM web site • Data Format: Raw data are required by our database (PRISM) • Feel free to contact Mack Shen for any questions (Phone: 515-294-9256) Germplasm Enhancement of Maize
