  1. Lessons from Babel The purpose of the undertaking was twofold. First, they wanted to assure themselves of the strength that comes from unity and they were determined to make themselves renowned. They defied God and set out to prove their self-sufficiency.

  2. Lessons from Babel • The account of Babel is important for a number of reasons. There are biblically recorded events that provide much insight as to man, culture, races, and the planet upon which we live. The full grown nature of creation (Gen. 1). The global flood (Gen. 7). Sons of Noah (Gen. 9; 10).

  3. Lessons from Babel • Emphasis on the material. • They wanted a name. • Man’s way versus God’s way. • God’s sovereign prevails. • False unity.

  4. Lessons from Babel • The importance of language. • The effects of confusion. • They wanted to “reach heaven.”

  5. Lessons from Babel • Conclusion: Let us avoid being materially minded; pride; inserting our own way; thinking we can defeat God; unity in false matters; correctly use language; avoid confusion; and seek to reach God’s dwelling place.
