Writing Thurstone items • Take care if you can expect the item to have the “typical” Thurstone ICC-profile • Author of items probably has her own view on the topic which complicates writing items that cover a “distant” opinion (items must word true opinions). A qualitative pilotstudy can be helpful to learn to know such “extreme” opinions • The entire domain (scope) of the attitude must be covered by (some) items, if not there is a risk to obtain an incomplete scale. Therefor the original set of items needs to be large and comprehensive • Factual items are not useful aim at an attitude of opinion.
