  1. Done Blood test that could help you diagnose ovarian cancer faster Ovarian cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. It happens due to the growth of cells which forms in the ovaries. The cells multiply in the fastest possible manner and invade as well as destroy healthy body tissue. Ovarian cancer treatment generally includes surgery followed by chemotherapy. Women suspected of ovarian cancer undergo a blood test for determining the protein level known as CA125 in the body. The blood test can be done from a nearby diagnostic centre. If the blood contains a high amount of protein, then there is an indication of cancer but it can also be due to pregnancy, menstruation, endometriosis and uterine fibroids.

  2. Significance of the test: The test CA125 is done for various reasons. The test is done in a hitech diagnostic centre. Let’s take a look at the following reasons why the test is recommended by the doctor: ● If a woman has an ovarian, endometrial, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer, then the doctor might recommend a CA125 test regularly for monitoring the condition & treatment. ● If someone has a family history of ovarian cancer or has inherited the gene then there is a high chance of the woman having the disease at any point in time. When you visit a doctor and share about your family history, the doctor can certainly CA125 test to screen for this cancer. Some doctors might also recommend transvaginal ultrasound combined with CA125 every 6-12 months who are at high risk. ● The rising level of CA125 recommends that ovarian cancer has come back after treatment. It might lead to additional chemotherapy followed by other treatments. How to prepare: If the doctor recommends a blood test only for CA125, then there is no restriction that you need to follow. You can drink and eat normally before the test is done. The test is done by collecting a small amount of blood sample in the body only by using a small needle. You will not be able to understand and the sample will be taken within the blink of an eye. After the collection is done, the blood sample is sent to the lab. One can resume normal activities right after the test is done. The result of the test takes about 24-48 hours to be ready. You can check the result online by visiting the website of your lab from where the test has been conducted. You can also visit the lab and collect a hard copy of the report. About the result: If you are under treatment for ovarian cancer, then you might have to undergo the test CA125 several times throughout the year. If the result shows that there has been a decrease in the level, it means the cancer is responding to the treatment. But if the level increases or stays at the same level, it means, the cancer is not responding to the treatment. If you are done with the treatment but after testing CA125, the result shows a high level, it means, cancer has again come back. If you have not received any treatment for ovarian cancer, but the CA125 result shows a high level, then it is a sign of cancer. But it can also be a sign of noncancerous conditions like pelvic

  3. inflammatory disease, endometriosis, liver disease, uterine fibroid menstruation issue and pregnancy.
