Status Overview: SMT • Silicon • Production • DONE • South silicon detector (SMT-S) • Move & Installation today • North silicon (SMT-N) • All barrels and disks complete • Assembly in support cylinder starting • Start cabling before Thanksgiving • Ready for DAB at beginning ~ Dec 12 • H-disks ( need 4) • 3 H disks ready • 10% test • Continuing to be useful/ learning • Sparsification “problems”. • Put H disk in

Fiber Tracker Status - Waveguides • Waveguide Production and QC continue • Installation • South • All installed • Replacements done • Different fixes tried • QC Data on all available ( not perfect, but all light transmissions within 10%) • Lesson: minimize handling of waveguides • North Started • Installed CPS North & started on CFT • First QC data look good • QC in real-time with installation

  4. Fiber Tracker Status • VLPC Cassettes • Continues • Electronics availability a problem • WG QC vs. Cassette Charact. Goal (99): done by Feb 15, 2001

Status Overview • Central Muons (94 PDT’s) • Commissioning continues • Completing electronics installation • Reading out part of each layer + L1 trigger • Gas Chromatograph being brought up • Forward Muon detectors • Installing & reading out part of it Installation status Trusses (north & south) moving into collision hall this week.

  6. Status Overview • Trigger & DAQ • Commissioning is still okay, but….. • Final hardware arrival is a worry • L2 VME-Alpha boards still a concern. NO working board yet. Now have 25. Not good • Three approaches: • Fix existing boards @ FNAL, UIC & UoM • Another production run ( company visit two weeks ago). Have parts for 17 boards. • New design completely….. • L3 board production concern: vendor visit • Technical manpower an issue: Varelas, Johns @FNAL starting December • Online • In use at low rate, not on critical path • Commissioning workshop going on today; goal is to read out crate of every detector.

Status Overview; Electronics • Electronics • Calorimeter • Preamp installation/commissioning underway (10k installed, 12 PS ready, cooling installed) • BLS has vendor delays • Motherboard: 1250/500/165 • need/bare/stuffed • Daughter cards 5000/3750/950 • Daughter card: 300/week vendor (end Jan. 01 complete) • CC is cold and filled with liquid • Read out 4500 channels last night ( 2 of 4 CC quadrants); about 10% of all channels • Muon • Done

Status Overview; Electronics • Tracking Electronics • Si Interface Card • 160 pc production order released • 15 boards in hand • 2 tested so far; no significant problems • Testing …… @ KSU and FNAL • Analog Front End boards • Released production start for PCB • Noise with MCM at 30fC, need 5fC • Goal is to release production on Nov 29 and have boards in December • MCM going • Produced 100; projected rate: 25/day; Need 1900. • Company wants more money; holding boards hostage; with Business section; price increase $70K • Adapter card • 34 with new design at FNAL • Power supplies • VICOR current schedule Dec-Jan • Some power supplies coming in earlier ( still January) Re-arrange this

  9. Installation • Progressing well. • Shield wall is down • Trusses (north & south) are ready for move into collision hall (complete this week) • B layer muons to be installed • SMT-S going in as we speak • Mechanical installation going well

  10. Summary • Concerns • NOT Silicon anymore • Installation: lots of activity/m2;are careful • Electronics delays are THE concern for realistic commissioning • Vendor delays, parts availability • Willing to spend $ to fix if possible • Trigger falling clearly behind
