Social Workers serve as representatives of the profession, it’s mission, and its core values They know the professions history Social Workers commit themselves to the profession’s enhancement and to their own professional conduct and growth National Association of Social Workers Mission Statement: NASW is a membership organization with a dual mission to:•Promote, develop, and protect the practice of social work and social workers; and•Seek to enhance the effective functioning and well-being of individuals, families, and communities through its work and through its advocacy. How I apply this Mission to competency#1 • Being mindful of how the social work profession started and how far we have come from being called “friendly visitors” to actually being recognized as a respectable helping profession • This knowledge would be empowerment to conduct myself as a professional Social Worker as I represent a large profession and contribute to it’s growth and enhancement

  5. NASW Code of Ethics and Competency # 1 • The National Association of Social Workers are comprised of 145,000 members, who are required to agree to and sign the NASW Code of Ethics upon joining. • The NASW Code of Ethics consists of Ethical principals, Ethical standards and Core values for Social Workers.

  6. Competency # 1 intertwines with Code of Ethics • While Implementing the NASW Code of Ethics into Professional Social Work at Moore County DSS • I will put into practice personal reflection and self correction to assure continual professional development and attend to professional roles and boundaries as I meet with clients during my training • Also, I will demonstrate competency of Identifying myself as a professional social worker and conducting myself accordingly.
