  3. Basketball • History • Introduced in 1891 by Dr. James A. Naismith • First official game was not played until 1892 • General Rules • A regulation size team consists of five players: two forwards, two guards, one center • If a player receives a foul from an opposing player a free throw shot is awarded to that player. • Some basic fouls are: double dribbling, charging, jump ball, traveling, holding and many others • A player is out of bounds when they cross the base line of the court Next

Soccer • History • Some believe that soccer originated from ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Japanese, ancient Greeks, and Romans. • Soccer was introduced to the Olympic games in Paris in 1900. • General Rules • Teams consist of 11 players on each team, with one as a goal keeper • Game play is for two 45-minute halves with a 10-15 minute halftime Next

Menu • Fouls and Misconduct • When a player commits a foul the opposing team is awarded a direct or indirect free kick • Some of these fouls are committed by kicking or attempting to kick an opponent, tripping, jumping at an opponent, holding and many others • Skills and Techniques • Passing • Shooting • Dribbling

Track and Field • History • Actual fundamentals of track and field began with the Greeks in 778 BC • In 392 ad it was abolished by the Romans, then in 1894 it was reorganized by Pierre de Frdy and Baron de Coubertin. • Typical Track Meet • A track meet consists of contests in a presented number of races of different lengths and of contests in jumping and/or throwing. Competition is by individuals except in the relays, which involve competition of teams consisting of four individuals. Next

Sports Summaries Menu • The thing that I lie most about these sports is that you can not just wake up one morning and be good at the sport you have to try and keep practicing. • These sports can be played at any age level and both boys and girls can play these sports. • Learning these sports can be a good way to help you build skills and confidence.
