  3. Toyota T3 Partnership A three way training partnership between Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited The Dealerships and TAFE AIM To provide automotive training for Toyota that meets specific needs off the National Dealer Network

  4. Why T3? • Lack of sufficient, suitable young people taking up Apprenticeships • Inadequate retention of trained staff

  8. Future Needs • Eight hundred additional technicians by 2005 • 20% increase in Dealer facility & staff by 2005 • Higher level of education required • Dedicated and enthusiastic employees • Stable and loyal workforce

Situation • Education level -Year 10 only in many instances • Inconsistent and inadequate selection process • No induction process in many instances • High turn over rate on completion of trade certificate. • Employees not matched to employer needs • Employees see limited future in the industry

T3 Objectives • Training solutions for Dealer staff. • Training delivered jointly by Toyota, TAFE & Schools. • Structured Training plan with entry & exit points. • School Based part time Traineeship for all skill types. • National & International recognition. • Skilled & qualified workforce • Year 12 Certificate • Certificate II TAFE Qualification • Clearly defined career paths.

TAFE/Secondary Schools • Eliminate duplication of training effort • TAFE access to latest technologies and diagnostic procedures • Availability of training aids,components and vehicles • School students more focused on studies ( less disruptive ) • Direct links to local Toyota Dealers • Better understanding of Industry / Employer needs

Trainee/Parents • Education targeted to their chosen career • Trainees enter workplace job ready & qualified • Employer/Employee relationship established • Paid employment while working at the dealership • Hands on experience at work and exposure to Industry disciplines in TAFE and work environments • Peace of mind that a full Year 12 Certificate has been obtained • National accreditation (Certificate II)

T3 Expansion • 2001 – T3 Program commenced in 6 NSW Centres • 2002 – T3 Program extended to: • - All colleges in NSW • - Through Moreton Institute in Brisbane • - Through Kangan Batman Institute in Melbourne • - Through Chisolm Institute in Melbourne • 2003 – T3 Program Extended to : • - Douglas Mawson Institute in Adelaide • - Regency Institute in Adelaide • - Canberra Institute of Technology

  16. N.S.W – Results2001 - 2002 • 53 Trainees commenced • 49 Trainees completed •  Completion rate = 93%  • 100% achieved desired outcomes • 98% offered full-time employment • 82% currently working in the Automotive Industry and pursuing further studies.

  17. 2004 & Beyond • Certificate II in Automotive Vehicle Servicing • Certificate II in Business • Certificate II in Automotive Sales – Replacement • Parts & Accessories to be offered in all participating Colleges T3 to extend into: • Rural Queensland • Rural South Australia • Rural Victoria
