YES Program Summer 2011 • Intern: Jeremy Guardiola ’12 • Mentor: Michael Stern ‘59 • Location: Harlem, NY • Focus: Youth Empowerment • Description: I ran a job placement program for high-achieving teenagers from New York’s inner-city while also organizing cultural field trips and personal development workshops for the cohort. • “More than anything, I believe the YES Program provides its participants with a bolstered identity and sense of agency in a world they usually see as stifling. YES allows them to realize that, contrary to the outside world’s expectations, they are capable of accomplishing lofty goals and achieving success.”
