  1. Energy Smart Industrial (ESI) Energy Management Pilot ReviewOctober 12, 2011

  2. ESI – Energy Management Components Energy Management - Pilot Energy Project Manager Track and Tune High Performance Energy Mngt. ESI Energy Management addresses the personnel, technology, and process needs of an organization that aims to improve energy efficiency.

  3. Track and Tune Project Steps and Payment Summary • ESI Program supports Scoping, Process Tracking System, Tune-up and Action Item Completion. • Verified sustained savings are incentivized over defined performance period.

  4. HPEM program basics • HPEM is a 1-year training and system implementation process • Measurement & incentives ($0.025/kWh, annually) over 3 years or 5 years • Costs: no financial cost, but time commitment required • Process: • Identify target customers with utility • Establish Energy Team, baseline and goals • Implement process (connect to other program components) • Continuous monitoring of performance, and improvement

  5. ESI Energy Management Energy Project Manager HPEM Track and Tune Monitoring, Targeting and Reporting (MT&R) Performance Tracking System (PTS) Energy Management Tracking Systems • Monitoring, Targeting & Reporting (MT&R) • Performance Tracking System (PTS) Common methodology for monitoring performance used by HPEM and T&T Hardware/Software/People-ware to measure energy and independent energy drivers

  6. Example: Regional Food ProcessorFacility Baseline Model Variables IB - Daily Inbound lbs of product from the freeze tunnels. OB_TOTAL – Daily total outbound lbs of product shipped WB - Outdoor wet-bulb temperature in degrees F Equation: kWh/day = 49530 + 6.047e-02* IB + 3.776 * √(OB_TOTAL) + 7.526e-01* (WB)*√(IB) Key Fit Statistics R-squared = 0.96 (min 0.75 required) Coefficient of Variation CV = .092 (max 0.2 allowed) Mean Bias Error = -.0004% (max 0.05% allowed)

  7. Baseline 2009 Production Season Tune-up 2010 Production Season Off-Season A B Example (cont.): Regional Food Processor Tune-up • Estimated First-year savings: ~800,000 kWh/yr • Participant implemented a large number of improvements in Fall 2010 • 11 Custom Project opportunities were identified during the Tune-up

  8. Core Elements of a PTS
