  2. The Spis Castle was built in the 12th century on the site of an earlier castle. It was the political, administrative, economic and cultural centre of Spis County of the Kingdom of Hungary.

  5. the castle was rebuilt several times in the 14th – 15th century • it burned down in 1780 • since that time it is a ruin

  7. structurally oldest and most important part is the Roman palace • built at the time of Tatar invasions Knights' Hall

  8. The castle was partially reconstructed in the 20th century.

  9. According to the legend, a beautiful girl called Hedwigajumped off the castle tower due to unhappy love and the fear of the punishment. Today we see her face carved into the stone wall.
