The Frontier Market An economic term rather than a political judgement Prospect of enormous gain at the risk of natural and political hazards Investable, but have lower market capitalisation and liquidity than developed emerging markets A fragile landscape with weak state structures dominated by complexity

Understanding the Context ‘To understand the economy you have to understand the politics’ ‘Business diplomacy’ – crucial for success Business is ‘a pawn and a prize’ in a landscape dominated by human relationships Effective analysis and contextual understanding allows scenario-building and identification of threats
