  1. The control room is the heart of any operation. It determines your organization’s ability to identify threats and respond to them accordingly. Also known as the command center, this space is an integral part of any company. Given how important this space, there are a lot of factors to consider when designing them. Control rooms are centers of business, and you need the employees working in them to perform optimally. Here are fundamental factors to keep in mind when designing your control room. 1. Floor layout and other ergonomic requirements The first thing to think about is all the ergonomic considerations needed. Ergonomics involves more than just having a comfortable chair or desk to work at; it

  2. also flows into the room’s layout. The employees working in these control rooms often spend long hours seated in front of computer screens. This means that aside from making ergonomic considerations when selecting the control room furniture, you also have to think about how the room’s layout and furniture will affect the employees’ effectiveness and productivity. Ergonomic workspaces reduce the fatigue and stress from sitting all day and keeps them engaged and focused through those long hours. 2. Centralization Next is centralizing control. For many control room operators, their effectiveness is tied to their workspace. Since they are responsible for identifying and preventing dangerous events, centralizing control helps improve the nature and speed of their responses. For instance, you can have a single keyboard and mouse that interact with all screens and dashboards. This way, you can respond faster since you don’t have to keep changing workstations. Centralizing control also makes it easier for control room operators to work. Today most of them have to keep an eye on anywhere between 3 to 10 displays connected to 2 t 4 computers. With a master keyboard and mouse, they can work a lot more effectively. 3. Safety precautions When designing the control room, you want to keep safety precautions in mind. Even though access to the control room is restricted, you want to ensure that your employees can get to safety in case of an emergency. So, ensure that there’s an emergency exit and a clear line of sight to it. The room should also be well ventilated, have alarms, and clear exit signs. 4. Total costs Given all the factors that go into designing a control room, one of the most important one is calculating how much everything will cost. Consider the costs of everything from the consoles to the hardware, lighting, control room furniture, displays, construction, and more. Having a budget and figuring out what fits within

  3. it ensures you don’t overspend in one area, say the equipment, and forget to factor in others. The basic goal of a functional, well-designed control room is to ensure those working there perform exceptionally. When designing the command center, there are a lot more factors you must consider to make it the best it can be. By factoring in these and other key factors, you can create a space that takes functionality to the next level.
