  1. What is This Lump on My Foot? Is It To Be Worried For? Lumps on the side of your foot or other parts of the body are not uncommon. They can occur to anyone and might cause varying symptoms. These lumps can be painful or painless, depending on where they occur and the underlying cause. Some lumps can cause extreme pain and discomfort when you are walking or putting on shoes, while others are hardly noticeable. If a lump appears on your foot out of nowhere and is causing trouble in walking, sitting, or other movements, get it checked by a knee specialist in Mulund. A foot lump indicates many underlying problems. Let’s see what causes foot lumps and when are they a cause of concern. Bunions

  2. The most common cause of a foot lump is a bunion. When a lump appears at the base of your big toe and keeps getting bigger and more painful, it is most likely caused by a bunion. This is caused by the overlapping bones, which result in a small yet noticeable bump. These lumps can get bigger over time and can affect your routine activities. Some lumps from bunions do not need any medical treatment. Just change your shoes and massage the area with an ice bag and you will be alright. Other lumps, however, can cause a lot of pain. You may have to undergo surgery to re-align your bones and restore your mobility. Plantar Fibromas Plantar fibromas are found on the arch of a foot, although they can grow at the bottom too. This mass-like structure is benign and causes little to no pain. It can develop on one or both feet. Although painless, a plantar fibromas lump doesn’t go away on its own. You may have to take steroid injections, physical therapy, and customized shoe inserts. They mainly occur from repetitive trauma to your foot caused by running, exercises, putting extreme pressure on your foot, etc. Morton’s Neuroma Morton’s Neuroma lump appears between your toes. They are harmless and resolve on their own, but they can be very painful.

  3. Morton’s Neuroma doesn’t indicate any serious underlying condition. They occur in the areas exposed to excess strain from heels or uncomfortable shoes. Steroidal injections can help, but they are not required. Ganglion Cyst A ganglion cyst is another common cause of lumps on your foot. Although it’s mostly seen on wrists, a ganglion cyst can appear on the side or top of your foot too. The mass is filled with a jelly- like texture and is often painless. However, these lumps tend to grow and cause a tingling sensation, itchiness, or discomfort when they rub against shoes and nerves. You may have to consult an orthopedic surgeon for the surgical removal of these lumps. They can also be drained. Either way, a ganglion cyst is highly likely to grow back. A foot lump can also indicate a serious problem, such as a fungal infection due to diabetes or a malignant tumor. Schedule a visit to your orthopedic doctor in Mulund, Mumbai if you have an unusual mass on your foot.
