  1. Making a semi-formal lab report Should be about one page

  2. Overview • The semi-formal lab report may be typed or written by hand. • Please attempt to keep it to one page in length. • It should include the following sections: • Purpose • Data • Analysis/calculations • Conclusion

  3. Purpose • This is about one or two sentences. • You should report the scientific goal of your experiment. Examples • An experiment was conducted to determine the relationship between X and Y • Our experiment set out to determine…

  4. Data • This section is simple. This is where you put your data table. • Don’t forget to include units on the column headers.

  5. Analysis/calculations • This is where you show your work for any calculations you performed. • NOTE: If you perform the same calculation many times you need only show one example and then I will assume all other calculations were performed the same way. • This is also where you would put any graphs for the lab. • Label the x and y-axis or you will lose points!!!

  6. Conclusion • This is where you present you finding. • This is also where you discuss any errors or outliers that you encountered. • This section is generally one to four sentances.

  7. Notes on semiformal lab reports • These should be SHORT!!! • Try to keep it under a page. • If you have multiple graphs and lengthy calculations then it may bleed onto a second page. • I do not want a lot of text. Say what you need to say and be done with it. • Don’t for get your units!!!
