Important Dates • Oct 1 – FAFSA opens • Oct 7 – Senior Parent Night at WHS • Oct 21-25 – Free College Application Week • Oct 23 – Financial Aid night at Education Building 6pm • Oct 27 – FAFSA Day 9-12am (FTCC, Salem College, UNC-School of Arts, WFU, WSSU) • Nov 5 – Senior Showcase (Jostens presentation) • Nov 15 – Senior Day (Cap & gown pics, order Jostens supplies, verify diploma, settle school debt) • May 15, 2020 – Senior Award’s Day & Senior Picnic • June – Graduation (Date & Time TBD)

  5. FAFSA DAYSaturday, October 26, 2019 • Need help completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)? Register to attend FAFSA Day at the following locations: • Forsyth Tech • Salem College • UNC School of the Arts • Wake Forest University • WSSU

Senior year is expensive! • Senior fees for WHS - $70 (Includes Cap, Gown & Tassel, Senior T-shirt, Senior picnic, Senior class picture, Senior keychain, Senior Class Gift) • Cap & Gown pictures • SAT/ACT fees • College Application fees • Yearbook • Extras (Homecoming, Prom, etc) • Fee waivers

  7. Fee Waivers Fee waivers are available for: • SAT • ACT • College Applications • AP testing • Talk to your child’s School Counselor for more information.

Graduation & Senior Award’s Day Attire Gentlemen Ladies Dress (must be no longer than your graduation gown and the collar must not show) Brown or black dress shoes with a back or back strap (no athletic shoes of flip-flops) Cap, gown, and tassel (Mortar board must be level.) Do not alter the cap or gown prior to the graduation ceremony. Steam your gown so that it will not have creases and wrinkles. • Dark navy or black dress slacks (no jeans) • White, long-sleeved dress shirt and a tie • Brown or black dress shoes (no athletic shoes or flip-flops) • Cap, gown, and tassel (Mortar board must be level.) • Do not alter/decorate the cap or gown prior to the graduation ceremony. • Steam your gown so that it will not have creases and wrinkles.

  9. Graduation Gear • Jostens – Cap, gown & tassel • Honor Graduate Gold Stoles – (student borrow & return) • National Honor Society White & Blue Stoles ($5 – rent/ $35 – purchase) • National Technical Honor Society Purple Cord ($5 - rent/ $35 – purchase)

  10. Senior reminders: • All school debt (including Senior Fees) must be paid prior to Graduation. Any student with outstanding school debt will not be allowed to participate in the Graduation Ceremony. • We must have a Birth Certificate on file to order a Diploma • Name on Diploma MUST match the Name on Birth Certificate

  11. Graduation requirements • English – 4 credits English I, II, III, IV • Math – 4 credits Math I, II, III, 4th math • Science – 4 credits Earth, Bio, PhySci, 4th science • Social Studies – 4 credits World, Civics, Am Hist I & II or AP USH & 1 Hist

  12. Graduation requirements cont. • Physical Education: PE I & II or Dance I-A & I-B - .5 credit each Life Skills - .5 credit/ Health - .5 credit • Electives: 2 credits from the following: Foreign Language, CTE, or Arts • 2 additional elective courses • CPR certification

FAFSAFree Application for Federal Student Aid • www.fafsa.ed.gov (Click 2020-2021 FAFSA) • One application to apply for Federal and State financial aid (Free of charge) • Based on family financial records (Tax forms) • Opens October 1, 2019 for 2020-21 school year • Must have FSA ID www.fsaid.ed.gov (Both student and parent must have FSA ID’s) • Seniors will begin obtaining their FSA ID’s in Advisory beginning 9/25

NC Residency Determination • www.ncresidency.cfnc.org • In order to receive In-state tuition and State financial aid, a residency determination is required • Use your cfnc.org username and password or you can create a new account with RDS • Complete required documentation of NC residency and receive your Residential Determination Number • Most public NC colleges and universities require RDS number before submitting application

Career/ WorkKeys • WorkKeys is a job skills assessment measuring “real-world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success. • Who Takes WorkKeys:   Seniors who complete 4 CTE courses within a pathway. • When will WorkKeys be administered: December 3rd at Walkertown High School • Student who achieve a certain WorkKeys score may receive a National Career Readiness Certificate making them more competitive in the job market.

  26. NCAA Clearinghouse • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at www.eligibilitycenter.org. Cost is $80. Fee waivers are available for eligible students. • Students should register to take the ACT, SAT or both. Use the NCAA Eligibility Center code “9999” as a score recipient. • At the end of the year, official transcripts are submitted for all 11th and 12th graders registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
