  2. Welcome Back! • Upper Division 1 (Junior Year) • Upper Division 2 (Senior Year) • Transfer 2nd Year Students • Can complete UD 1 or UD 2

  3. UD 1Upper Division 1 Requirements • Flexible options • 3 components • Research preparation • Research/project • Service

  4. UD 1 Research Prep Course • 1 unit, graded course • One Science and Engineering and one Social Sciences and Humanities • An introduction to research methods and preparation for capstone projects • Offered Winter 2015 • Many of you have already completed this requirement last year (IST94)

  5. UD 1 Project Options • Honors Contract • 1 unit, Graded, associated with an Upper Division course • Contract info meeting: Tuesday, Oct 7, 12-1pm 3201 Hart Hall • Proposal Form is online, due October 15 • Independent Quarter-long Project • No unit credit • If you are interested, contact us to propose the project • To receive credit, turn in a 1,200 word analytical essay on your experience and a statement from your supervisor certifying project completion

  6. UD 1 Study Abroad Project Option • Prior to end of UD 1 year (yes, summer counts) • Do not need to propose in advance • Submit 1,200 word analytical essay on your experience and… evidence of your participation in the program • Photo journals encouraged!

  7. UD 1 Service Requirement • 20 hours of service • Flexible • Do not need to propose in advance • Submit 1,200 word analytical essay on your experience and… • a written statement from a supervisor detailing your hours worked and what you did

  8. UD 1Project Management Course (PMC) • Fulfills BOTH the Service and Project Requirements • 3 units, letter graded • Offered Fall, Winter, and Spring • Small groups, exciting projects, research experience

  9. UD 2 Upper Division 2 (Capstone) Requirement • Four options: • Departmental Thesis • UHP Thesis • Senior Engineering Design Project • Capstone Independent Project

UD 2 Theses • Departmental Thesis: • Through your major • Departmental honors • Present at the URC • UHP Thesis • 2 quarter, 4 unit each quarter, letter graded • Proposal due on 10th day of instruction • (find the Proposal Form on our website) • Fall-Winter or Winter-Spring • Present at the URC

  11. UD 2 Senior Engineering Design Project/Senior Practicum • Complete the project through your department • Present at the URC

  12. UD 2 Capstone Independent Project • Non-thesis project • Equivalent academic rigor to a thesis • Requires a project sponsor/instructor of record • 2 quarter, 3 unit, graded • Proposal due on 10th day of instruction • (find the Proposal form on our website)
