  1. No Clickers Bellwork 1 1 1 1 1 Which is larger? The area of the blue region or the area of the red region? 14 • What is the probability of rolling a 4 and a 5 on a pair of dice?

  2. Bellwork Solution 1 1 1 1 1 Which is larger? The area of the blue region or the area of the red region? 14

  3. What is the probability of rolling a 4 and a 5 on a pair of dice? Bellwork Solution

  4. Use Geometric Probability Section 11.7

  5. The Concept • Up until now we’ve just been looking at how to figure areas of various geometric figures • Today we’re going to apply what we’ve been learning by combining it with what we know about probability

  6. We understand probability as Probability Revisited This makes obvious sense if we’re discussing the concept of traditional events e.g. dice, cards, free throws, marbles, etc… We however need to adapt this to fit a geometric construct Let’s look at our bellwork example

  7. Bellwork Solution, Revisited • Given this, what would be the probability of throwing a dart and hitting the red region? We found the area of the blue region to be 11π and the area of the red region to be 14π. 1 1 1 1 1

  8. Based on our example, we can amend our equation to: Probability Revisited This system works for lengths, just as it does for areas For Example, What is the possibility of choosing a point on AB that lies between M&K 13 8.9 9.2 6.5 B 4 5 N M L K J A

  9. Given our school day, what is the probability that you will get called to see Mr. Ukaoma during 7th hour, if you he has told you that he will be calling you out? More linear probability 1 2 3 4 L 5 6 7 8

  10. Assuming the board has a playable area radius of 225mm, what is the probability of hitting an 18? Example These are pretty easy because the areas of each space are the same, Does our method work for non-standard areas? a 19 or 20? One 19 with one of three darts? Three 19’s with three darts?

  11. A persons’ land is shaped like the figure below. The EPA detects a high level of PCB’s at a point source. What is the probability that the source is in the Area 375’ In the Honey Clover Field? 460’ Soybeans In the area by the House? 610’ App. Shore line 350’ 1850’ Honey Clover House In one of the two fields? 300’ 225’ 275’ 200’ 825’
