  1. IN THE WILDERNESS DOWNTOWN a perfect remediation.

  2. Part 1: Interface The interface for the websites promises a unique musical experience based on the Arcade Fire song, “We Used to Wait”

  3. Part 2: Interaction The user is prompted to enter in the address of the home they grew up in, for the purposes of this remix-dissection we used an FSU address.

  4. Part 3: Interface Manipulation With “We Used to Wait” playing in the background, the program independently starts different windows on the screen with different film shots and animations using the Google Chrome browser. The animations used respond to the music.

  5. Part 4: Repurposing The character that runs throughout the beginning of the video in a vague suburban landscape is now seen as an animated black figure running through the Google Earth images of the FSU “neighborhood”

  6. Part 5: Personal Focus The large scale aerial shots are brought down to ground level shots and the home at the address entered in the beginning is revealed through a 360 degree shot as if coming from the eyes of the “hoodie character”, this also coincides with the climax of the song.

  7. Part 6: User Contribution/Addition The user is prompted to “write a postcard to the you the used to live there back then” and then has the option to submit it to a global collection of other users’ postcards.

  8. Part 7: Artistic Resolution At the end of the video, the animations and the Google Earth images, mostly separated in the interface, are combined as large trees overcome the landscape of the user’s home.
